I love to collaborate with other local food groups and am a member of many sustainable and organic farm organizations. These are my friends, all doing good work that deserves highlighting and public support.
I have been a member for 30+ years. Together we are farmers and eaters who advocate for sustainable agriculture, clean water, affordable health care for all.
Based out of Spring Valley, WI and primarily women-led, this group holds the biggest organic farming conference in the United States every February. I attend most years and have also been a presenter.
An enjoyable art fair in Historic Cannon Falls. Ride the bike train, canoe or kayak the Cannon River, visit the Winery, Brewery or Distillery, and then come buy some great art! We often have a booth where you can also buy our Escape Garlic Scape Pesto.
This non-profit started by the Pohlad family helps immigrant-owned and small farms aggregate what they grow and connect with larger institutional buyers. Their facility includes huge walk-in coolers and freezers, dry storage, and a commercial kitchen where some of my food maker buyers create their food. My produce is also a part of their farm share CSA.
Jay and I belong to the Cannon Valley Chapter, and I have served on the Board of Directors at the state level. This group creates the space for sustainable farmers to share with other sustainable farmers. The MN Garlic Festival, Salsa Festival and other sustainable agriculture events and classes are organized by the farmers in this group.
This is the certifying organization that visits my farm every year to verify that I am following organic protocols and approve my organic certification.
This is an archive of Chris Blanchard’s extremely popular podcast where Chris dives down into the weeds with organic small and medium scale farmers and draws out their best theories and practices. Chris died from cancer a few years ago – but he left the world an amazing gift of more than 150 long format interviews that any of us can listen to.
I met my FBM instructor Jennifer Smith in 2011 and have been meeting with her about once a month since then! We meet at my farm where she helps me go over my numbers. I eventually completed a degree in Farm Business Management and I find Jennifer’s advice and the FBM program very valuable.
This is an animal welfare certification program run by A Greener World. Each year they visit my farm, make sure I have good records of my poultry, including what I feed them, how much space they are given inside and outside their coop, how much of their pasture is denuded (only 25% is allowed) and other welfare standards.
Co-op Partners Warehouse in Saint Paul, Minnesota is a distributor of organic, natural and local produce, dairy, and grocery products. They carry my pesto and a lot of other great local (to Minnesota) food!
